Building a Shopify Store to Support Long-Term Growth

A case study for White Squirrel Kitchens, built on a phased approach that meets the business where it is and evolves as it grows.

There are some projects that start with a strategy.
And then there are the ones that start with a story you can feel right away.

White Squirrel Kitchens was the second kind.

When I first connected with TT Baum, he was in the early stages of building something new. The business wasnโ€™t quite ready for a website yet, and instead of rushing into it, we stayed in touch. That space in between, where things are still forming, is often where the best decisions get made.

White Squirrel Kitchens began after a life-changing medical event in 2022. During recovery, TT was encouraged to explore something new, and he found his way back to the kitchen.

What he created wasnโ€™t just food. It was a way back into creativity, purpose, and connection.

As a longtime vegan with a deep appreciation for European cheeses, he began experimenting. What started as trial and error quickly became something more refined, blending traditional cheesemaking techniques with plant-based ingredients.

When we reconnected a few months later, things had shifted.

The brand had more clarity. The business had momentum. And now it made sense to build something that could support where things were headed, not just where they were.

Originally, we talked about WordPress. But as we dug into his goals, especially around product sales and future growth, Shopify became the clear choice.

As we talked it through, we found ourselves aligned in how we were looking at the business, and Shopify just made sense for where he was headed. At that point, he wasnโ€™t ready for full e-commerce.

The first version of the site focused on information and discovery, giving his business a true footprint online. A place for people to understand the product, the process, and the care behind it.

Then, only a few weeks after launch, things moved quickly.

As the business gained traction, local delivery became the next natural step. Because we had built on Shopify, we were able to move into that next phase without friction, adapting the site to meet the moment instead of rebuilding to catch up.

Not just for today, but for what was coming next.

For a product-based business like White Squirrel Kitchens, Shopify offered exactly what was needed, built-in tools for selling, marketing, and managing products, all within a platform thatโ€™s intuitive for both the business owner and the customer.

It also gave us the ability to grow into full e-commerce without needing to rebuild later. That meant we could create a site that feels simple on the surface, but is working hard behind the scenes.

The goal wasnโ€™t just to get a website live, it was to build something that reflects the brand and supports where the business is headed.

With that in mind, we focused on:

  • A clean, story-driven design that highlights the heart behind the brand
  • Product positioning that speaks to both plant-based and non-vegan customers
  • A structure that can evolve alongside wholesale and direct sales
  • Local pickup and delivery to better serve the Asheville community

Since launch, the site has continued to grow right alongside the business, adapting as new opportunities and needs come into focus.

White Squirrel Kitchens is growing in a way that feels steady and real.

More local visibility.
Growing wholesale relationships.
More people discovering the product.

The site is doing what it was meant to do, giving the business a strong, clear presence and a place for people to connect with what heโ€™s creating.

You can order White Squirrel Kitchens for local delivery and try it for yourself. Or find him at a local market. Subscribe for their newsletter or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

Itโ€™s one of those products where the process behind it shows up in the final result: Small Batch. Big Flavor

That early thinking around growth is already paying off.

With Shopify as the foundation, the site is set up to accommodate his plans to expand product categories, move into full online ordering, and continue supporting direct customers, with a clear path for future wholesale ordering.

Thereโ€™s no need to rebuild or rethink the platform. Just room to grow into whatโ€™s next.

Shopify is user-friendly, but that doesnโ€™t always make it simple. Hereโ€™s why.

This is where having a partner in the process makes a difference.

Not someone just placing images and text, but someone thinking through how the site should function, how your customers move through it, and how each piece supports your goals.

Instead of trying to figure out the structure, features, and flow on your own, youโ€™re able to talk through what you need and have it translated into something that actually works the way it should.

Because the real questions go deeper than just getting a site live:

  • How quickly does someone understand what you sell?
  • What are they learning in the first few moments on your site, and does it guide them clearly?
  • Are you thinking about how they move from curiosity to actually taking action?

That kind of thinking is what turns a website into something that supports your business, not just something that exists.

This project worked because the timing and communication were aligned from the start.

Planning the website in stages made the process more manageable and less stressful. It allowed the site to roll out in increments, as he was ready, which also helped from a budgeting standpoint.

Instead of building everything up front, we focused on what was needed at each stage.

And by working through those phases thoughtfully, the decisions we made continue to hold up as the business grows.

Thatโ€™s what allows something like this to actually support the business over time.

If youโ€™re getting ready to have a website built and want to create something that truly supports your growth, setting it up with the right support from the beginning can save time and frustration later.

I take on a limited number of projects so the process stays thoughtful and collaborative. Because the goal isnโ€™t just to launch a site, itโ€™s to build something that can grow with you.

If youโ€™re ready to build something that supports where your business is going, not just where it is now, letโ€™s start the conversation.
